Enjoy it while it lasts, homophobes. Unlike many things, I haven't a shred of doubt where this is going in the next decade or two. Like every human rights issue before it, it'll eventually triumph. And then a few decades after that it'll be an embarrassment that it took us so long.

As an alternative to gay marriage, I would support the government getting out of the marriage business entirely, and issuing only civil unions to _all_ consenting adults, gay or straight. But segregation is not okay.

Liberty. Understand it.

Stewed beef pho from Turtle Tower for lunch. It's Hanoi-style pho, so they use the flat egg noodles instead of the round kind. All right. Average. Cioppino from Nettie's Crab Shack for dinner. That was pretty good. The piece of toast has shelled crab on it, and there was crawfish in the cioppino. The gumbo at Nettie's (not pictured) was excellent.

I really liked this brief article about humility. I've always preferred quiet strength to arrogance, thankfulness to entitlement, and graciousness to pride. Seems to me there's far too little of those things around.

I'm actually quite glad about the recent protests in Washington. I assume this means I'll never again have to hear from The Right that protesting the government is "un-American"? Excellent. Thanks.

Flax spaghetti with a mozzarella and red bell pepper white sauce for lunch. Ribs for dinner. They look all right, but they were actually very undercooked, which is inexcusable. I have a thermometer! I was laid low by hubris. I thought, It looks fine. I know what I'm doing. When, in fact, I clearly did not. It's the long end of a rack of spare- (as opposed to my more usual baby back-) ribs, so I should have braised it longer. Let's go three hours next time.

Curry noodles for lunch (home-made egg noodles, 60% water+egg, pinch of salt; turned out pretty well). Bacon cheeseburger from Fish and Farm (7x7's best burger in SF) for dinner. I don't know about best, but it was very good.
